The Castle, the hotel,

The rich history of the magnificent Château des Monthairons originated in 1857 by Charles Henri de la Court and was designed as a Benedictine monastery.

Located in the beautiful valley of the Maas, the castle survived two major wars of which the first “1914 – 1918” emphatically left its mark in the area around Verdun. It was requisitioned on 25 June 1915 by the American army to serve as a hospital. Every year there are commemorations and attracts many interested people from all over the world to experience what the trench warfare around Verdun really means. The son and the grandson of President Eisenhower were guests to get to know the history. For those who want to know more about this dark period around Verdun, the library of the castle contains a beautiful documentation.

The castle is located in a beautiful park surrounded by beautiful old walls and decorated with beautiful old trees, you can just get lost in time, drifting away in the oasis of peace and the sounds of the many bird species that have found their place here and annually can also be found again.

In 1985 the castle was bought by the Thouvenin family and saved from the test of time. Carefully restored with a special feeling for the authentic state which fortunately many elements have been preserved.
La Grande Est, the combination of Ardennes, Champagne, Lorraine and Meusse, is a region in full development and gives you as a visitor ample opportunity to get acquainted with the beautiful nature and the rich history of the region where Château des Monthairons can heart forms of the many possibilities.

The 26 rooms of the castle come in different forms and of course different price ranges, which we ourselves call the charm of a historic building. We are there for everyone.

Many car clubs from all over Europe were our guests but also, seminars, weddings, dinners for large parties, presentations, performances, private events, intimate romantic dining after an aperitif on the terrace are among the palette of possibilities. A 4 star hotel run by the family itself gives more than an extra dimension. The personal involvement makes the stay more than worthwhile and is a particularly important factor in hospitality.

Highlight of 2018 was perhaps the visit of President Emmanuel Macron who was our guest for a few days with company. We are proud of it.
