The Meuse at the foot of the château park

Fresh air

Nature escapes in the Meuse

River, lakes, forests and orchard-covered hillsides: discover the Meuse on foot, by bike or along the water, from a fourteen-hectare park.

A century-old tree in the château park

Unspoilt nature

A park, a river, a land of forests

The château stands on the banks of the Meuse, in a valley that has remained rural, between Verdun and Saint-Mihiel. The cycle route passes at the foot of the estate, the forests are a few minutes away and the Lorraine Regional Nature Park begins on the Côtes de Meuse, just beyond the right bank.

This page brings together our favourite escapes, with driving times from the château. Many can be done without a car, on foot or by bike, straight from the park.

Along the water

The Meuse, its lakes and ponds

First the river, calm and lined with poplars, then the great lakes of the Lorraine Regional Nature Park, less than forty minutes away.

Practical tips

Do I need to bring my own bike?

La Meuse à Vélo can be ridden on a road bike or a hybrid. Hire companies are located along the route, notably in Verdun; enquire before your stay to book.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, the château welcomes pets for a fee per stay, and the park and the cycle route are perfect for walks. In the nature reserves, dogs must be kept on a lead.

When is the best time to come?

April to October for walking and cycling, with the mirabelle plum trees in blossom in April and the orchards heavy with fruit in August. Autumn brings colour to the forests of Verdun and Vent des Forêts; Lake Madine is quieter out of season.

Are the walks suitable for children?

The greenway and the circuit of Lake Madine are flat and safe. Vent des Forêts offers short loops, and the Pré-l’Évêque in Verdun has beaches and play areas. Bring hats, water and closed shoes.
